Common Test & Tag questions

Straightforward answers to the questions Melbourne businesses ask us most. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch.

What is electrical Test & Tag?

Test & Tag is the process of inspecting and testing electrical equipment and appliances that plug in via a lead, then labelling each item to show it has been tested and recording the result. It helps businesses keep track of which equipment has been checked and when it's due again.

What types of equipment can you test?

We test suitable single-phase electrical equipment and appliances that plug into a standard outlet — computers, monitors, printers, kitchen appliances, power boards, extension leads, chargers, tools and other plug-in items.

How long does Test & Tag take?

It depends on the number and type of items. Each item only takes a short time, and we work efficiently to minimise disruption to your workplace. We can give you a better estimate once you tell us roughly how much equipment you have.

Can you test a small number of appliances?

Yes. Many small businesses only have a handful of items, and we're happy to help with smaller quantities. You'll never feel like your job is too small.

Can you test equipment while our business is operating?

In most cases, yes. We work around your operations with minimal disruption, and can arrange a time that suits your schedule, including outside busy periods where needed.

How often does equipment need to be tested?

Testing requirements and intervals can vary depending on the workplace, equipment and environment. We can help you understand what may apply to your equipment.

Do you provide records of the testing?

Yes. Tested equipment is labelled and the results are recorded against an organised equipment register, with clear next-test dates so you have a simple record to refer back to.

Can you remind us when equipment needs to be tested again?

Yes. Where ongoing testing is required, we help keep track of the next testing cycle with retesting reminders and regular scheduled visits where appropriate.

Do you service small businesses?

Absolutely. Small and medium businesses are our core customers — offices, cafés, retail stores, workshops, trades and more. Whether you have a few items or a few hundred, we can help.

Which areas of Melbourne do you service?

We service businesses across Melbourne, with an initial focus on the western, inner-western and north-western areas. Tell us your suburb and we'll confirm whether we can help.

Can you test power tools and extension leads?

Yes. Power tools and extension leads are common items we test, particularly for trades, construction, workshops and warehouses.

Do you provide three-phase testing?

Reliable Current does not currently provide three-phase testing. Our current service focuses on standard single-phase electrical equipment and appliances that plug in.

We're transparent about this limitation — see our services page for the full scope.
